In February 2024, Team4Ukraine brought medical supplies to a care facility for orphans and the elderly in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine as part of the "Red Ball Express Don Bosco" operation and established cooperation that immediately . The children's home in the village of Mahala near Černovice takes care of children with severe and combined disabilities (such as cerebral palsy). Thanks to the transfer of children from the war zone in eastern Ukraine, it is drastically overcrowded. It is no different in the nearby care center for the elderly in Černivce.
The children's home in Mahaale, a village on the outskirts of Chernivtsi, is literally a few kilometers from the Romanian border. It looks like an old school with a big garden. The pre-war Ukrainian social system was already very spartan before the war. And the fights certainly didn't make it any better. The center strives for maximum self-sufficiency - the source of heat is a huge pile in the yard, the corridors of the facility smell of winter apples stored in crates. During the February outing, we supplied Mahala with diapers of the appropriate sizes, winter clothes, toys and hygiene items.
Another facility that takes care of the needy in the Černivce area is the care center for the elderly right in Černivce. We delivered supplies of food and diapers for them. Due to the extremely low operating subsidies, the grass diet of the local seniors is very meager and monotonous, we also bought supplies of fresh food for the seniors with the remaining money. In short, we received a hefty cookbook with which we set off on a shopping spree of local butchers and vegetables :D. A powerful experience.
The total value of the aid delivered during the February trip is CZK 130,000.
Chernivtsi region is considered one of the safest in Ukraine. Well, a few days after our expedition, it was attacked by Shaheed attack drones of the Russian invaders. There is no truly safe place in Ukraine these days.
